Chinese mainland reports 5,659 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 52 new deaths

The Chinese mainland reported 5,659 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, including 5,646 domestically transmitted and 13 imported, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Friday.

The Chinese mainland also reported 10,029 asymptomatic infections, including 9,942 locally transmitted and 87 imported on Thursday, the National Health Commission said.

52 new deaths were reported on Thursday, all in Shanghai. The city reported 5,487 confirmed cases and 9,545 local asymptomatic infections.

There were 28,317 active cases on the Chinese mainland as of Thursday, with 417 in critical condition.

The total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland stood at 214,243, and the death toll stood at 4,975.
