China on Wednesday expressed hope for a more stable relationship with the United States.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a routine press briefing in Beijing in response to the arrival of Xie Feng, China's new ambassador to the United States.

"A sound and stable China-US relationship is not only in the interest of both countries, but also of great significance for the international community," Mao said. "An ambassador is an important bridge and bond of communication and cooperation between China and the US."

"We hope that the US will provide support and convenience for Ambassador Xie to accomplish his duties."

China always followed President Xi Jinping's three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, she said.

"We hope that the US can meet China halfway and act in the common interests of the two peoples and the world," the ministry spokesperson said. "We urge the US to work with China to enhance dialogue, manage differences and promote cooperation so as to bring China-US relations back to the right track."
