Former senior provincial political advisor stands trial for bribery

CHONGQING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Huang Yi, former vice chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, on Thursday stood trial at the First Intermediate People's Court of Chongqing Municipality for taking bribes.

Huang was charged with accepting money and valuables worth 34.95 million yuan (about 5.09 million U.S. dollars), according to prosecutors.

He allegedly took advantage of his position to assist others on matters related to contracting construction projects, the approval of business programs, and the operation of enterprises between 2001 and 2022, when he held various posts.

Huang pleaded guilty and expressed remorse.

A verdict will be announced in due course.
