7 dead in central China mountain torrents

WUHAN, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were confirmed dead in mountain torrents caused by heavy rain in a scenic area in central China's Hubei Province Sunday evening, local authorities said.

As of 11 p.m., 38 people were rescued in Duobi Gorge, Hefeng county. More than 10 remained trapped.

Local officials, rescue workers and medical experts have rushed to the scene for rescue.
