The United States has become the primary threat to cyber security, not only for China, but for the world, a spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a routine press briefing in response to the US National Security Agency's Tailored Access Operations (TAO) which continues to engage in data theft against internet users around the world.

Wang pointed out that according to a recent report, cyber agencies of the Five Eyes Alliance, including the UK, and some European countries have assisted and participated in US cyber theft operations around the world.

“This shows that the US is building an ‘Axis of cyber espionage’ with the US as the core,” Wang noted. “The United States has become the primary threat to cyber security, not only for China, but for the world.”

The report pointed out that some US internet software and hardware companies are involved in the development and manufacture of US cyber weapons, he stressed.

Wang cited the report from the China’s National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center, pointing to existing Internet Backbone Networks and key information infrastructure around the world, as the software and hardware provided by US companies are very likely to become the target of cyberattacks by the US government.

“It is not difficult to see that the real purpose of the United States, using so-called national security as an excuse to discredit and suppress Chinese enterprises, is to facilitate its irresponsible cyber theft activities,” he said.

“China urges the US to immediately stop its malicious cyber activities against the world and adopt a more responsible attitude in cyberspace,” he added.
