China calls on all parties to remain calm and show restraint, and to stop adding tension and confrontation, a foreign ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.

There are reasons for the current tension on the Korean Peninsula, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a regular press briefing in Beijing, when responding to a question about the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) firing a new type of ballistic missile on Thursday.

The United States recently launched a large-scale military exercise around the peninsula and deployed strategic weapons, Wang said, adding that the negative impact is obvious to all.

"The US should take concrete actions as soon as possible to respond to the reasonable concerns of the DPRK and create conditions for easing tension and restarting dialogue as soon as possible," the spokesperson said.
