Beijing (People's Daily) - There are less than 100 days until the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Dubai. The main task of this year's multilateral process is to promote the success of the conference, Xie Zhenhua, China’s special envoy for climate change, said at the 9th China and Globalization Forum in Beijing on Thursday.

To this end, China has implemented President Xi Jinping's request to conduct intensive dialogue and consultation with the United States, European countries and other relevant parties to seek solutions to issues marked by differences at the conference, he said.
US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry visited China in July. Premier Li Qiang, Vice President Han Zheng, Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Wang Yi met Kerry respectively. "Kerry and I held nearly 30 hours of consultations over three days, and US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns also participated in related activities," Xie said.

"China and the United States had a full and in-depth exchange of views on the scientific nature of the climate crisis, their respective actions to address climate change, bilateral pragmatic cooperation, and multilateral processes," he said. "They agreed to continue to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, maintain communication, and contribute solutions to the success of the COP28 Conference in Dubai."
"In the past two months, Kerry and I have held video talks almost every two weeks to discuss next-step meeting arrangements and launch related work of the climate action working group, not only to discuss key issues of the COP28 Conference in Dubai, but also to promote practical cooperation in the 2020s," he said.
"I proposed to Mr. Kerry that if necessary, I could go to the United States for talks to strive for positive results beneficial to both countries and the people of the world," he said.
The China and Globalization Forum seeks to promote international dialogue and cooperation and was founded by the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), a non-governmental think tank in Beijing. It has been held for eight consecutive years since its establishment in 2015.
