London (People’s Daily) – With broad potential for cooperation, China is prepared to strengthen cooperation in various fields with the new UK government, a Chinese embassy spokesperson in the UK said on Tuesday.

At a briefing with Chinese and UK journalists, the spokesperson, Minister Counsellor Bi Haibo said that the two countries, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and major economies in the world, share a wide range of common interests and have extensive opportunities for cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, science and technology, education, combating climate change, and international and regional affairs.

The recently elected Labour government has proposed a “full audit” of Britain’s relations with China within 100 days of taking office.

"China is willing to work with the new UK government based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and non-interference in internal affairs to promote the healthy and stable development of China-UK relations," said Bi.

The Chinese and British economies are highly complementary, with broad cooperation potential in areas such as high-end manufacturing, new energy, electric vehicles, financial services, biopharmaceuticals, and creative industries, said Bi. “We are willing to share development opportunities with the UK and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in these areas.”

Bi introduced the recent resolution on further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernization, adopted at the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

“The view that ‘China’s door of openness is closing’ is completely unfounded,” said Bi. He emphasized the plans in the resolution to expand institutional opening up, further relax market access, ensure national treatment and protect the legitimate rights of foreign-funded enterprises.

China advocates inclusive and beneficial economic globalization, continuously providing new opportunities for the world through China’s new development. The diplomat emphasized that China's “door of openness” will only open more comprehensively and never close.
