This statement was made in response to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's remarks regarding constitutional revisions to explicitly recognize Japan's Self-Defense Forces.

"During World War II, Japanese militarism inflicted profound suffering on the region and the world," said spokesperson Lin Jian.

In remembrance of the grave calamities caused by that war of aggression, we are launching a podcast series featuring excerpts from notable wartime memoirs.

Today, we present passages from the introduction to Iris Chang's The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II.
