BEIJING, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday urged the United States to abide by the one-China principle and three China-U.S. joint communiqués, and stop "arming Taiwan."

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the comments in response to a media query regarding U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.
"In pursuit of selfish political interests, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities are willing to act as a 'cash machine' for U.S. arms dealers and beg for illusory external 'protection'. Such behaviors will only expose Taiwan to an even more dangerous situation and bring grave disaster to Taiwan compatriots," Zhu stressed.
When responding to another query concerning Taiwan's special defense budget aimed at seeking military cooperation with the United States, Zhu reiterated that the Taiwan question is entirely a matter for the Chinese people and brooks no external interference.
She urged the U.S. side to act prudently on the Taiwan question, stop sending wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, and refrain from interfering in China's internal affairs.
The DPP authorities' attempts to collude with the U.S. forces in military means for secession will surely end in failure, Zhu added.
