The US' accusations are based on speculation and vague insinuations and are completely groundless.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the remark at a regular press conference on Wednesday in response to media inquiry on reports that Christopher Yeaw, the US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Arms Control and Nonproliferation, accused China of conducting nuclear testing, and said the US will return to testing "on an equal basis" with other countries.

China urges the US to stop looking for excuses to resume nuclear tests, Mao emphasized.

"China has repeatedly reaffirmed that it has always firmly upheld the purposes and objectives of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and consistently abided by the commitment of the five nuclear-weapon states to 'suspend nuclear tests,' while the US, in an attempt to evade its international arms control obligations, has not hesitated to falsely accuse and smear other countries," Mao added.

Mao stated that China urges the US to abide by its commitment to the moratorium on nuclear testing, uphold the international consensus on banning nuclear testing, and stop looking for excuses to restart nuclear tests.
