After a Chinese citizen was reportedly attacked by unidentified individuals on the streets of Sumiyoshi-ku, Osaka, and a backpack containing 5 million yen ($32,000) in cash was robbed on Wednesday, the Chinese Consulate General in Osaka once again reminds Chinese citizens to avoid traveling to Japan recently and has immediately lodged representations with local police, urging the Japanese side to solve the case as soon as possible, the Consulate General said in a notice released on Thursday.
Recently, public security in Japan has been poor, with similar incidents occurring frequently. The Consulate General in Osaka urges Chinese citizens in the consular district to closely monitor the local public security situation, firmly enhance their safety awareness, avoid carrying large amounts of cash when going out, and effectively strengthen risk prevention and self-protection, the notice said.
According to Japanese media outlets, the men reportedly threatened the victim with what appeared to be a stun gun, stole his money, and fled the scene.
The suspects fleeing the scene are believed to be dressed in black clothing and hats. Police will investigate the incident further, including by reviewing security camera footage, TBS News reported.
