China Monday voiced deep concern over the spillover of hostilities affecting surrounding countries following the US and Israeli military strikes on Iran, and stated its support for regional nations to uphold peace and stability through enhanced communication and coordination based on good-neighborly friendship.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks during a routine press briefing in Beijing when asked to comment on attacks targeting US military sites in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Jordan, as well as the condemnatory statements issued by relevant countries following the US and Israel launched military strikes on Iran on February 28.

Mao said the US and Israel launched military strikes on Iran without the authorization of the UN Security Council, which constituted a violation of international law.

"China is deeply concerned about the spillover of the hostilities that has impacted neighboring countries," she said. "The sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of all Gulf countries should also be fully respected.

"We urge all parties to cease military actions and prevent the further spread of the flames of war."

China commended the GCC extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers for emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy are the only ways to overcome the crisis and safeguard regional security, Mao said.

"The current regional situation is complex and sensitive," the ministry spokesperson said. "China supports regional countries in strengthening communication and coordination based on the principle of good-neighborly friendship, and working together to uphold regional peace and stability."
