The Chinese economy demonstrated strong resilience and vitality despite challenges in external environment in 2025, a spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Liu Jieyi, spokesperson for the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, made the remarks at a press conference, one day before its annual session.
China's total economic output crossed the new threshold of 140 trillion yuan (about $20 trillion) in 2025, with its growth rate continuing to rank among the highest of major economies globally, Liu said.
New quality productive forces have grown rapidly, with deep integration of technology and industry leading to a surge of innovative achievements, the spokesperson said.
Liu said domestic tourism spending during the nine-day Spring Festival holiday exceeded 803.4 billion yuan, an increase of 126.4 billion yuan compared to the previous year, highlighting the vibrance of China's market.
The 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, which concludes on March 13, is expected to see 9.5 billion cross-regional passenger trips, effectively averaging more than one journey for every person on Earth, he said.
Liu said thanks to stable fundamentals, numerous advantages, strong resilience and vast potential, the Chinese economy still enjoys unchanged underlying conditions for and basic trend for a long-term sound development, despite some persistent issues and new challenges.
"As long as we remain confident, leverage our strengths and address challenges effectively, we can surely continue to consolidate and build upon the momentum of stable and positive growth, propelling China's economy forward steadily and surely through the waves," he said.
