China's expanding network of community fitness facilities, accessible within a 15-minute walk (15-minute fitness circles), will serve as true "hubs of well-being" for the public, Gao Zhidan, director of China's General Administration of Sport, said in an interview after the second plenary meeting of the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday.

Gao emphasized the need for popular grassroots sports events, such as village basketball tournaments and urban amateur "super leagues," to flourish nationwide so that the benefits of sports development are truly felt and enjoyed by the public.

Gao added that China will continue to strengthen governance of the sports sector. This effort includes promoting sports integrity and good sportsmanship, as well as regulating the order of sports industry development.
