CAIRO, March 9 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Egypt and the Egyptian Orman Association jointly held a donation event in Giza governorate on Monday to help Egyptian families in need.

According to Zhang Yaqiang, minister and deputy chief of mission of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, this year's campaign raised 3 million Egyptian pounds (about 56,800 U.S. dollars) to support local families in need, and the event has assisted tens of thousands of households across the country since its inception.

The charity event has become an important platform for friendship, communication, and cooperation between China and Egypt, Zhang said.

Chang Weicai, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, said the chamber has organized the charity campaign for 12 consecutive years, underscoring the commitment of Chinese enterprises in Egypt to contributing to local communities while strengthening their presence in the Egyptian market.

"Chinese enterprises in Egypt actively fulfill their social responsibilities," Chang said, expressing hope that the donated supplies, including rice, flour, and cooking oil, will help ease the living burdens of needy families and deliver warmth and care from Chinese friends.

For his part, Mamdouh Shaaban, director-general of the Orman Association, a non-governmental charity organization, spoke highly of its ongoing cooperation with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Egypt.

The donated supplies will be distributed across several governorates, including Dakahlia, Gharbia, Sharqiya, Fayoum, and Beni Suef, Shaaban told Xinhua, adding that the association will ensure the generosity of Chinese companies to benefit families in need.
