China firmly opposes illegal unilateral sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) against Chinese entities, China said Tuesday.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular press conference when asked to comment on the EU's announcement of sanctions against two Chinese companies and an Iranian company over alleged cyberattacks on EU member states.

China urges the EU to correct its wrongdoings and work with China to jointly maintain peace, stability and the prosperity of cyberspace in a responsible and constructive manner, said Lin.
