BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- China firmly opposes official interactions between the United States and the Taiwan region, and has made stern representations to the U.S. side, said a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Monday.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to the recent visit to Taiwan by four U.S. senators, urging the United States to take concrete actions to uphold the overall interests of China-U.S. relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
Mao said the United States should adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, handle the Taiwan question prudently and properly, cease all forms of official interactions with the Taiwan region, and stop sending any wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
"China's position on the Taiwan question is consistent and clear. We will take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard our national sovereignty and territorial integrity," said the spokesperson.
