The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, in pursuit of political self-interest, have persistently manipulated the judiciary and suppressed and persecuted political opponents. Such retrogressive actions have already sparked growing opposition from more and more people on the Taiwan island. Right and wrong, and where justice lies, are clear in the hearts of the people, Zhang Han, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Wednesday.

Zhang made the remarks in response to a media inquiry for comments on that former Taiwan People's Party chairman Ko Wen-je was sentenced in the first trial to 17 years in prison and six years' deprivation of civil rights, Taiwan's "mainland affairs council" claimed that judicial cases in Taiwan are independently handled by judicial authorities and that the mainland should not point fingers, still less take the opportunity to reap "united front benefits", and an online poll conducted by a YouTube channel on the case showed that 85 percent of netizens believed the ruling was "unreasonable."
