The China-Pakistan five-point initiative on restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East is open and welcomes responses and participation from all countries and international organizations, foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning remarked at a regular press conference in Beijing on Tuesday.

Mao said the proposal can be summarized as a three-step approach — ceasefire, negotiation, and ensurance: namely, an immediate cessation to hostilities; the prompt launch of peace talks; and efforts to ensure the security of non-military targets, the safety of shipping lanes, and the primacy of the UN Charter.

As important members of the Global South, China and Pakistan made a rational and just call aimed at building a broader consensus and stronger synergy within the international community to help ease tensions and restore peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East as soon as possible, Mao said.

"The initiative is open. We welcome all countries and international organizations to respond and participate. China will continue to maintain close communication with Pakistan and other relevant parties and play a constructive role in promoting a ceasefire." Mao noted.
