The root cause of the obstruction of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is the US-Israeli illegal military operations against Iran, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.

In response to a query about US President Donald Trump telling other countries to "go get their own oil" in the Strait of Hormuz, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Mao Ning stated at a routine press conference that only by achieving a ceasefire, and realizing peace and stability in the Gulf region can the safety and smooth flow in international shipping routes be fundamentally ensured.

Mao added that all parties should work together to de-escalate the situation and prevent further impact of regional turbulence on the global economy and energy security.
