China said on Friday that recent US accusation concerning ports in Panama is groundless and confuses right and wrong.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press conference when asked to comment that US Secretary of State has accused China of "bullying" by detaining or holding up dozens of Panama-flagged ships.

Mao said the US' accusations are entirely fabricated and turn facts upside down, adding that the US' repeated wrongful allegations only reveal its attempt to take control of the Panama Canal.

"Who is blatantly undermining the neutrality of the canal and the stability of global supply chains through unilateral bullying and coercive acts? The facts are crystal clear for all to see," Mao said.

She stated that China's position on issues concerning relevant Panamanian ports is clear and that the country will firmly defend its legitimate rights and interests.
