A traffic accident that occurred in Russia on Saturday resulted in the death of one Chinese citizen and left about 10 others injured, Sun Chuanjiang, deputy consul general of the Chinese Consulate General in Irkutsk, Russia said on Saturday citing information provided by the Russian side, China Central Television reported.

Sun said that upon learning of the accident, the consulate immediately contacted the Russian side and urged it to make every effort to treat the injured Chinese citizens. The Russian side has sent the injured to two nearby hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, the consulate has dispatched two consular officers to the scene to handle follow-up matters, according to CCTV.

Earlier, Russia’s emergency services reported that on April 18 local time, a bus carrying about 40 Chinese tourists overturned on a road connecting Zabaykalsk and Chita.
