China said on Friday that it resolutely opposes the US smearing the country's achievements in the AI sector, urging the US side to stop technological coercion against China.

Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the remarks at a routine press briefing in Beijing in response to US allegations targeting China's artificial intelligence development.

"The US side's claims are entirely unfounded and constitute a smear against China's achievements in the development of its artificial intelligence industry," Guo said. "China firmly opposes this."

He said the United States should respect facts, discard prejudice and stop suppressing China’s technological progress.

"We call on the US to cease its efforts to contain and pressure China in science and technology, and to do more that is conducive to promoting bilateral scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation," he said.
