China's zero-tariff policy for Africa is a key step in its push for greater openness and will inject new momentum into Global South solidarity, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday.

China has noted the strong interest and positive feedback from African countries regarding the policy, the spokesperson said at a regular press briefing.

"Zero tariffs are an important measure of China's initiative to expand unilateral openness, marking an epoch-making significant move in the history of China-Africa relations and international relations," Lin said.

China, by offering zero tariffs to share opportunities and pursue common development with Africa,  demonstrates its determination to contribute to global peace and development, Lin said, noting zero tariffs will serve as a golden key to trade prosperity.

"Taking this as an opportunity, China is ready to work with Africa to continuously enrich the implications of the zero-tariff measure, making it an unquenchable engine for promoting the high-quality development of China-Africa cooperation and injecting new impetus into the solidarity and collaboration of the Global South," said the spokesman.
