Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a routine press conference in Beijing on Friday in response to a query regarding the UK's arrest and prosecution of two Chinese citizens in the UK.

"The UK has arrested and prosecuted Chinese citizens on groundless charges, abused the law and manipulated judicial procedures to secure convictions," Lin said.

He noted that the UK has openly sided with anti-China forces seeking to disrupt the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, while making unreasonable accusations, smears and defamation against China.

"Such actions are a typical political farce," Lin said. "China strongly condemns and firmly opposes such moves."
