China conducts inspection of food security law enforcement

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) on Wednesday launched an inspection tour for the food security law enforcement to strengthen legal safeguards for food supply and reduce risks to national food security.

The law, which took effect on June 1, 2024, is China's overarching legislation on food security.

The inspection team will conduct on-site reviews in six provinces. Local legislatures of another six provinces are entrusted to examine the law enforcement practices within their respective regions.

The inspections will focus on areas such as protecting arable land, boosting overall grain production capacity, and promoting high-quality development of the food processing industry.

Li Hongzhong, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, presided over and addressed the first plenary meeting of the inspection team.
