Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory and has never been, nor will ever be, a country, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday in Beijing.

Guo made the remark in response to a question about recent comments by Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te.

Guo said the Lai authorities have repeatedly sought to draw attention and create a sense of presence, further exposing themselves as "troublemakers" and "destroyers of peace" across the Taiwan Strait.

"'Taiwan independence' and peace across the Taiwan Strait are incompatible. Trying to achieve 'Taiwan independence' by seeking foreign support or through military means will surely end in failure," Guo added.
