China on Tuesday warned Japan that once the Pandora's box of militarism is opened, no one will be left unharmed, and it will ultimately backfire on those responsible.

Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to the recent statements by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding the Japanese government's revision of the "three principles on transfer of defense equipment and technology."

"Hyping up external threats for military expansion and war preparations are habitual tactics of Japanese militarism," Mao stated, noting that Japan's lifting of bans on lethal arms exports, reinforcement of its defense industry, and accelerated shift toward offensive security policies bear a striking and dangerous resemblance to its militaristic preparations prior to World War II.
