China has criticized Japan's revision of its "Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology", warning that the move signals a dangerous shift toward militarization.
Speaking on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning accused Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi of hyping up “external threats” to seek excuses for military expansion, arguing that such actions run counter to the country's obligations under the Potsdam Proclamation.
The comments came after US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth voiced support for Japan's policy changes. Mao also drew comparisons between Japan's current trajectory and its militarization before World War II, calling on the international community to remain vigilant.
