China is deeply concerned about the situation in the Middle East, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday, noting that the renewed warfare serves the interests of no one.

Lin made the remarks at a routine press conference in Beijing after Israel and Iran traded strikes over the weekend.

"China hopes that relevant parties can fulfill their ceasefire commitments, keep the momentum of negotiations, stick to settling disputes through political and diplomatic means, and realize a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire at an early date, so as to create the necessary conditions for restoring peace and tranquility in the Middle East and Gulf region," Lin said.
