Zhang Xiaogang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks at a media conference after being questioned about Japan's move to monitor and disclose information on the operation of Liaoning in the waters of the Western Pacific.

The operation of Liaoning is not targeted at any specific country or entity, but aims to enhance combat capabilities through far-seas training, Zhang said.

The Chinese side responded to multiple surveillance operations of the Japanese side during the training in accordance with laws and regulations, he added.
