China urges the Philippines to stop maritime infringements and provocations in the South China Sea, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular press conference in Beijing on Tuesday.

"Huangyan Dao is an inherent territory of China, and China has indisputable sovereignty over Huangyan Dao and its adjacent waters," Lin said.

China's activities at Huangyan Island, including scientific research, are the legitimate rights of a sovereign state, he said.
