China has consistently and firmly opposed illegal unilateral sanctions that lack a basis in international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday.

Lin made these remarks at a daily briefing in response to Europe's plans to respond with sanctions against companies from China, Türkiye, India, and other countries.
"China has repeatedly lodged strong protests with the EU, urging it to correct its erroneous practices and withdraw its illegal unilateral sanctions," Lin said. "China will closely monitor relevant developments and will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard its legitimate rights and interests."
