China on Monday welcomed US-Iran consensus on a first-phase memorandum of understanding (MoU) and pledged support for regional peace efforts.

"China welcomes the consensus reached by the US and Iran on the first-phase memorandum of understanding and appreciates Pakistan's mediation efforts," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday. "China also hopes that the US and Iran will sign the first-phase memorandum of understanding as scheduled."

China is ready to work with the international community to continue playing a constructive role in promoting an early return of peace and stability to the Middle East and Gulf region, he said.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council said early Monday that the memorandum between Tehran and Washington was finalized and that the war and military operations on all fronts including Lebanon, have ceased immediately and permanently.
