CAIRO, June 17 (Xinhua) - The Chinese Embassy in Egypt, together with local partners, launched on Tuesday the second phase of China-Egypt "New Hope" poultry farming training program in Egypt's Giza Governorate to help rural women gain practical skills and boost household incomes.
Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang said that bilateral ties between the two countries are steadily advancing toward the goal of building a China-Egypt community with a shared future in the new era, as China and Egypt marks the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year.
Liao said the first phase of the poultry farming training program yielded "tangible results" last year, and the program will expand this year to better support rural development, empower women, and strengthen poverty reduction capacity in Egypt.
Shao Wen, New Hope Group's general manager for Egypt, said the first phase of the training program "brought not only additional income but also greater confidence to participating farmers."
Shao said that the program's technical and veterinary service teams will continue to provide support for local women.
Hatem Metwally, vice chairman of the technical committee of the Egyptian National Alliance for Civil Development Work, said Egypt is learning more from China's experience in poverty reduction and apply it in Egypt, with the poultry farming training program being one example.
