China accused Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities of coercing Cambodia by revoking visa facilitation after Cambodia backed the one-China principle, calling it a doomed so-called "Taiwan independence" scheme.

Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory and this is a widely recognized consensus of the international community, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian said at a routine press briefing on Monday.

Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that Cambodia regards Taiwan as a province of China and would not change its position of upholding the one-China principle.

"The DPP authorities' attempt to use measures facilitating personnel exchanges to coerce other countries and openly challenge the one-China principle, a basic norm governing international relations, once again exposes the malicious nature of their separatist agenda," Lin said.

The Cambodian government's firm position demonstrated that the DPP authorities' pursuit of so-called "Taiwan independence" has no support or market, he said.

"We sternly warn the DPP authorities that the trend of history cannot be stopped and that so-called 'Taiwan independence' is a dead end," Lin said. "The Chinese people's just cause of opposing separatist activities seeking so-called 'Taiwan independence' and their striving for national reunification will gain increasing understanding and support."
