TOKYO, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in Japan on Tuesday issued a safety advisory urging Chinese nationals in the country to remain vigilant and observe traffic regulations following a series of serious road accidents involving Chinese citizens.

According to the embassy, a rental car driven by Chinese tourists collided with a train at a railway crossing in Furano, Hokkaido Prefecture, last Thursday, leaving five people injured.

A separate two-car collision occurred in Furano on Monday, resulting in the death of one Chinese tourist and injuries to five others, the embassy said.

The embassy reminded Chinese nationals traveling by car in Japan to pay close attention at railway crossings and never enter a crossing after warning signals begin or stop within a crossing while passing through.

It also urged drivers to strictly observe Japanese traffic regulations, noting that vehicles travel on the left side of the road in Japan and cautioning against inadvertently entering oncoming traffic lanes.

The embassy stressed that driving without a valid license is prohibited and that Chinese driver's licenses cannot be used directly in Japan. Those planning to drive should obtain driving credentials legally recognized in Japan in advance and purchase appropriate insurance.

In the event of an emergency, the embassy advised Chinese nationals to call Japan's emergency services promptly and seek assistance from Chinese diplomatic and consular missions in Japan.
