China on Friday accused the Philippines of provoking maritime incidents near Huangyan Dao by sending a vessel and reporters, calling it a "troublemaker in the South China Sea."

"The Philippines should immediately stop its infringement, provocation and hype," Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian said at a routine press briefing in Beijing.

The China Coast Guard had already made clear the facts, Lin said.

"Huangyan Dao is China's inherent territory and Philippine vessels deliberately intruded into waters off Huangyan Dao," he said. "China took necessary measures to safeguard its rights and security, and the on-site operations were professional, standard-compliant, lawful and legitimate.

"The Philippines had once again arranged for journalists to participate in its infringement activities to deliberately provoke incidents and create hype, which once again proves that the Philippines is a disruptor of peace and stability and a troublemaker in the South China Sea."
