BEIJING, July 27 (Xinhua) -- China's national disease control agency released a new five-year blueprint on Monday aimed at modernizing the country's public health system and strengthening its ability to detect and respond to potential disease outbreaks.

According to the 15th five-year plan for disease prevention and control (2026-2030) published by the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, China aims to largely establish a modernized disease control system with distinct Chinese characteristics by 2030.

The plan promises to build a more robust institutional framework and working mechanisms to guard against and defuse large-scale epidemic risks, along with an efficient, multichannel monitoring and early-warning system for infectious diseases capable of responding rapidly to emerging threats.

The plan has also laid out targets for substantially improving capabilities in risk assessment, precision prevention and control, emergency response, medical treatment and supply-chain readiness.

It calls for strengthened preparedness against new and re-emerging infectious diseases, more effective control of risks posed by major infectious diseases, and stronger measures to curb the damage caused by serious illness.

To meet these goals, the plan outlines a series of priority tasks organized around three main pillars: preventing and controlling major infectious diseases, reinforcing the disease control system's institutional infrastructure, and enhancing broader public health capacity.
