Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Tuesday once again urged Japan to conduct a thorough probe into, do soul-searching on, and rectify its wrongdoing about the intrusion of a Self-Defense Forces (SDF) officer into the Chinese embassy, and provide a responsible explanation to China and the international community.

Lin made the remarks when asked about the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office completion of a psychiatric evaluation of an active-duty SDF officer who forcibly entered the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo while carrying a knife. The evaluation determined that he is criminally liable, which allowed the filing of an indictment against him.
"For some time, vicious incidents threatening the security of Chinese diplomatic and consular missions in Japan still occurr from time to time. These dangerous moves reflect that there are presently many deep-seated problems in Japan," Lin said.
"Any attempt by Japan to downplay or whitewash such acts will only abet such unhealthy tendencies. We once again urge Japan to conduct a thorough investigation, rectify its approach, reflect on and correct its mistakes, identify the root causes behind the incident, and provide a responsible explanation to China and the international community."
