Politicizing and over-securitizing submarine cable issues will only undermine international market rules and threaten global data connectivity and cybersecurity, which serve the interests of no party, a Chinese spokesperson said Tuesday.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to reports that the US is concerned about China's deployment of submarine cables in the Pacific region.

"International submarine cables are important international civilian infrastructure that bear on global network connectivity and the well-being of people around the world," Lin said.
