China on Wednesday called on relevant parties to resolve differences through dialogue and consultation to de-escalate tensions in the Red Sea.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a routine press conference in Beijing.

"China is closely following developments in the Red Sea," Mao said. "The sovereignty and security of all countries in the region should be respected, and the safety and smooth flow of international shipping lanes should be jointly safeguarded."
