China to oversee probe into deadly flash flood in Gansu

BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The National Commission for Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief has decided to oversee an investigation into a rain-triggered flash flood in northwest China's Gansu Province.

The flash flood struck a scenic area in Weiyuan County, Dingxi City, on the afternoon of July 26, leaving 25 people dead and 23 injured.

The commission urged Gansu Province to conduct a disaster investigation and assessment as soon as possible, enhance its disaster prevention, mitigation and relief capabilities, and better safeguard people's lives and property.
