Hong Kong's Exchange Fund foreign assets rise to 3,694.5 bln HKD in July

HONG KONG, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong's Exchange Fund saw its foreign assets rise to 3,694.5 billion HK dollars (about 470.8 billion U.S. dollars) in July, according to key analytical accounts released by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) on Friday.

The assets increased by 13.8 billion HK dollars during the month, the HKMA said.

The Monetary Base, comprising Certificates of Indebtedness, Government-issued currency notes and coins in circulation, the balance of the banking system and Exchange Fund Bills and Notes issued, amounted to 2,080.1 billion HK dollars, it said.

Claims on the private sector in Hong Kong amounted to 413.3 billion HK dollars. Foreign liabilities amounted to 139.9 billion HK dollars, according to the HKMA.
