BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- China will hold a series of activities to celebrate the fourth National Ecology Day on Saturday, as the country accelerates its green modernization drive, the country's top economic planner said Friday.

This year's National Ecology Day, themed "Building a green foundation for Chinese modernization," will feature a main event in Hulunbuir, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.

A range of public-oriented activities will also be organized to help the public better understand the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," as well as the key tasks and measures for advancing ecological civilization during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).

China's top legislature designated Aug. 15 as National Ecology Day in 2023 to raise public awareness of ecological conservation and encourage action to protect the environment.

The country has maintained a strategic focus on strengthening ecological conservation. The landmark Ecological and Environmental Code, set to take effect on Saturday, marks another major step in these efforts, providing stronger legal support for sustainable and environmentally friendly development.
