China on Monday noted that maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and advancing the political settlement of the peninsula issue serve the common interests of all sides.

Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular news briefing when asked to comment on reports that US President Donald Trump on Sunday instructed the Pentagon to "substantially reduce" joint military exercises with the Republic of Korea.

Lin said China has taken note of the relevant reports. "Maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and promoting the political settlement of the peninsula issue are in the common interests of all parties," he said.
