The Tien Kung team won the first gold medal of the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games (WHRG) on Sunday, with the Tien Kung Ultra robot clocking 38.15 seconds in the 400-meter (Large Group) final. The result was faster than the human world record of 43.03 seconds, held by South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk.
Four teams qualified for the final of this event. Lane 1 was the Honor Shuangchi team, Lane 2 the Jinghong Power team, Lane 3 the Zhuifeng Zaizai team, and Lane 4 the Tien Kung team.
The Honor Shuangchi, Jinghong Power, and Zhuifeng Zaizai teams all used the Honor "Lightning" robot, while the Tien Kung team competed with the Tien Kung Ultra robot, the Global Times learned.
The Global Times noticed that at the starting signal, all four teams sprinted at full speed. In the end, the Tien Kung team's Tien Kung Ultra robot crossed the finish line first to claim the championship in 38.15 seconds. The Zhuifeng Zaizai team finished second in 39.45 seconds, followed by the Jinghong Power team in 39.66 seconds, and the Honor Shuangchi team in fourth place with a time of 40.08 seconds.
The 2nd WHRG opened in Beijing's Ice Ribbon on Saturday and will last until Wednesday. During the event on Saturday, the Tianzhuo-team robot clocked 9.39 seconds in the 100 meter dash, beating the event record and Usain Bolt's 9.58-second mark. Right after finishing, the robot lost balance and crashed hard into the buffer wall.
