China on Monday urged the US to stop political manipulation and interference in sovereign countries' partner choices, opposing what the foreign ministry called "technological bullying."

Speaking at a daily press briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said some US officials had recently targeted Chinese technology companies on social media, alleging risks of espionage, cyberattacks and network disruptions and urging US partners in the Western Hemisphere to switch to "trusted suppliers."

"The remarks targeting Chinese technology companies fabricate facts and distort the truth, and amount to blatant technological bullying and unilateral coercion," Lin said.

China firmly opposes such remarks, he noted.

"China urges the US to stop political manipulation, stop interfering with sovereign countries' right to independently choose cooperation partners and do more concrete work conducive to prosperity and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean," he said.
