BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese lawmakers began reviewing a draft amendment to the lawyers law that encourages and supports lawyers and law firms to participate in public-interest legal services and provide legal aid in accordance with the law.

The draft amendment was submitted for its second reading to the ongoing session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the country's top legislature.

The legislative session runs from Tuesday to Friday.

The draft amendment also seeks to boost foreign-related legal services and improve the training of lawyers specializing in international legal affairs.

It supports law firms in improving foreign-related services and encourages greater international exchanges and cooperation.

The draft also stipulates that lawyers' lawful practice is protected by law and that no organization or individual may infringe on their legitimate rights and interests.

It requires relevant judicial, law enforcement and administrative authorities to establish and improve mechanisms to protect lawyers' rights in practice in accordance with the law.
